About NG7V

Amateur Radio Operator

Being an Amateur Radio Operator and hobbyist is a great way to stay physically active and mentally stimulated.

I am interested in the following aspects of the hobby:

  • The theory and math that support the technology
  • The radio, its components and accessories
  • Antennas
  • Portability of radios and antennas
  • The administration and automation of a radio station
  • Staying up to date with the latest developments
  • Radio Sport (Contesting)
  • Digital HF/UHF modes including those that use the Internet (Fusion)

My additional interests lie in:

  • Hiking
  • Camping in semi-luxury using a recreational vehicle
  • Off-road expeditions in a Jeep or hiking to a peak or in a park
  • Mobility of any kind
  • Leave no trace hiking and Jeeping

So, by combining all of these interests I can stay completely consumed at all times. There is always something to do, learning a new skill, a project to plan and results to enjoy. Never a dull moment!

I became a HAM in 1999 as KF6YOH, used a radio off and on until 2017. I was granted a General Ticket as W7YOH that year and then Extra in 2018. I applied for and received my NG7V vanity call in 2019. I still consider myself a newbie even if I have been in this hobby for over 20 years.

The learning curve is good and remains endless.
